After School Satan Club Approved at Tacoma, Washington Elementary School

Tacoma, Washington – November 8, 2016: The Satanic Temple’s After School Satan Club program has been approved to operate at Point Defiance Elementary in Tacoma, Washington.

The Satanic Temple of Seattle will be leading the After School Satan Club at the school every second Wednesday of the month, beginning in December. The first meeting on December 14 will be an Open House for Point Defiance Elementary School parents, students, teachers and staff.

All After School Satan Club meetings will begin immediately after school ends at 3:30 pm, and will take place in the school’s Art Room.

The After School Satan Club at Point Defiance Elementary is part of a growing movement across the nation. After School Satan Clubs are currently in formation in nine communities around the U.S., and many additional communities have inquired about starting After School Satan Clubs in their schools.

The Satanic Temple does not advocate for religion in schools and will operate the After School Satan Clubs only in schools that already host evangelical Good News Clubs. Good News Clubs are run by the Child Evangelism Fellowship, “a Bible-centered organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living.”

The After School Satan Club will provide an after-school alternative focused not on proselytizing to children, but rather on giving them the critical thinking skills they need to make their own decisions about the world. After School Satan Club classes will focus on science and rationalism and include games, projects, and thinking exercises that help children understand how we know what we know about our world and our universe.

The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic, internationally recognized religion headquartered in Salem, MA. Its mission is to encourage benevolence and empathy among all people, and to embrace practical common sense and justice.
